Ironically, in the effort to free Swedish children from so-called normative behavior, gender-neutral proponents are also subjecting them to a whole set of new rules and new norms as certain forms of play become taboo, language becomes regulated, and children's interactions and attitudes are closely observed by teachers. One Swedish school got rid of its toy cars because boys "gender-coded" them and ascribed the cars higher status than other toys. Another preschool removed "free playtime" from its schedule because, as a pedagogue at the school put it, when children play freely "stereotypical gender patterns are born and cemented. In free play there is hierarchy, exclusion, and the seed to bullying." And so every detail of children's interactions gets micromanaged by concerned adults, who end up problematizing minute aspects of children's lives, from how they form friendships to what games they play and what songs they sing.

What a crock of shit, although when i was at school i think the teachers just used the term everyone or everybody e.g "listen everyone", not for pc bullshit just because its easier probably.

I've been through the whole, sometimes bizarre world of inclusiveness training for teachers. You get some very strange suggestions coming from people on the extreme end of the issues. And occasionally they get implemented.

As far as I know, most schools aren't going to care if you call your students "ladies and gentlemen" or "boys and girls" when you address the class (I always used the former, myself). But I'm not surprised that at least one school out there has a policy like this.

I have a hard time believing this article. I know its entirely possible, but there seems to be no possible logical reason to call groups of students campers or penguins. If these are factual suggestions, burn it all down.

Where does this end? It appears like we are doomed to an Orwellian future where nobody is different and nobody may be "offended" in the name of inclusivity.

I don't really see a problem with most of it, but

Step 6 asks teachers to inquire when they hear students referencing gender in a binary manner and ask “what makes you say that?” to start a discussion about gender stereotypes.

I really don't think that the day needs to be interrupted for a discussion of gender stereotypes. All that's going to do is piss off parents.

Trans Lady here, I see it as awesome. Nothing wrong with this. other than not belonging in mens rights. Not everyone fits into the binary.

It isn't reasonable. It may sound like a strawman, but we already know about the rampant stomping-out and shaming of masculinity in schools and how it is affecting boys. In my view this is yet another step in that direction.

Make no mistake, as usual, this isn't so boys and girls can feel "equally included" and/or to prevent transgendered children can "feel safe". This is to perpetuate the psycho-pop nonsense that gender is learned and hammered in by the patriarchy and that we need to do more (MORE I SAY!) to make women (girls) finally get over all that middle school oppression they face very day.

I also believe in gender being a non-binary thing so I think it's cool. I'm not sure if young kids have a concept of gender identity, but it may be good to teach them early.
