I read a lot from a variety of genres. But for this topic, I’m mostly thinking of literary fiction and non-fiction. I often wonder about this question since finding this sub but haven’t gotten around to asking it yet.
Because it’s hard to imagine blackpillers consuming this stuff. The emphasis that “literary” writing puts on the inner lives of characters fundamentally opposes the sort of sweeping categories and generalizations that pills rely upon to make even a single coherent point. If 100 pages of a dense novel are dedicated to the complex motivations of its female characters, you’re not going to be able to fill it with “I notice nothing about him but his height” or “having been run through, I’m ready for beta bux.”
Even when female characters behave predictably, like cheating on a husband, it’s rarely for the limited and absolute reasons blackpillers would have inferred had the reader not already been given direct insight into their every thought. And I have said nothing yet about male characters, their own love lives usually much more interesting than what blackpill assumes for not-Chad, and more nuanced than what blackpill assumes for Chad--because Chad and not-Chad are archetypes, not people.
When I read a halfway decent book, I usually walk away without such contradictions to explain away. Whether the characters are lucky or unlucky in love, whether their lives are sex-filled or dried up, whether they are lonely or surrounded (or often, both) it’s all extremely relatable because each experience is processed and examined by the mechanism of humanity recognizable to introspective readers all over the world. I recognized it when I was a teen virgin desperate for any positive female attention, when I was a young man slowly starting to connect to the other sex, when I was a less-young man really started to get good at this, when the years of plenty hit and I started living the dreams teenage-me never thought was coming. And I recognize it now, in droughts and floods, in the exhilaration of new relationships and the agony and isolation of breakups, and in one-night stands, months long flirtations, unexpected friendships and everything outside and in between. I can’t imagine not recognizing it.
And I don’t think it’s an empty cliche, maybe even an understatement, to say that because I see people this way in art, I see people this way. It opens a part of my imagination that I can always return to. At the very least, it helps.
So how does all of this translate to blackpillers? What do you read? Is there any literature that you would say IS blackpilled? Is there any good art at all?
