Ok I’ll try to keep it simple. 6yrs married, one 3yo. No incident to speak of, just a slow and steady decline in my wife’s ability to cope with our suburban parent life. I finally told her she should move back to the city and visit whenever she wants to. I can’t take it anymore, the emotional burden of having her around is not tenable. She left for a week long vacation and I realized the effect was neutral: I was tired from the labor, but I kept up fine because I already do so much and the lack of her emotional burden was such a relief. I don’t need her income and I can take care of our son and the pets and house. If you’re thinking that I’m not supportive of her mental health, give me the benefit of the doubt: I have tried so so hard for years and she will not be helped. She’s just one of those stubborn people who seems almost addicted to suffering and has either no problem making me suffer or no actual awareness of how much she affects the people around her. Plus she said she finally felt like herself again while away on vacation in a city and repeatedly talks about wanting to escape.

So do you think this is the right move? Or should I just try to tough it out and sleep in the guest room and attempt to simply manage? Me moving out is not an option, I am running this place and my kid needs a stable parent.
