CS is generally a separate ‘line item’ within your decree. Nothing in your decree outside of support for the kids should be at play here. And by ‘support’ for the kids I mean things like clothing, medical, extra-curricular responsibilities. Ie: She can’t file for a modification of child support and attack your 401k for instance.

Example: My decree said I didn’t have to split clothing. A year later she didn’t like that and was able to get it modified to 50/50, which is generally standard practice anyhow. And, she was able to get CS raised because she had gone on disability since the original decree.

Basically, anything to do with the children can be revisited

Assuming you live in the United States, each state has a set interval minimum in which CS can be recalculated. In most states, it's 3 years, and 2 years in some. Your marriage settlement agreement can also trigger it if it has stipulations that require a recalc if either parent's income increases by X% or higher.

Recalculating CS is an administrative function. You don't touch your parenting plan or your marriage settlement agreement when performing a recalc. It's something your states Child Support Enforcement Agency deals with on a daily basis.

In what ways? Paying for clothes, etc is normal as is reimbursement of medical/education costs as stipulated by your marriage settlement agreement.

I my state you can file for a modification practically at any time. Every time I got a raise she'd want more. She has not left one cent on the table. The money is for her lavish lifestyle and not for the kids.

Anytime you go in for a modification of CS $ in my state, you can defend against it, saying it isn't in the best interests of the child, and then throw all the crap up against how the other parent didn't do xyz in the decree, and the issue winds up going to Mediation, and you have to fill out financial disclosures and provide everything all over again. Sure it, could be as easy as recalculating it, but honestly it's like re-opening your custody case all over again. You can literally spend tens of thousands of dollars to get child support raised or lowered by $50 a month. Just depends on who is on the other side.
