Child Tax Credit can only be claimed by one parent, just another way the government fucks over single dads.

We put into our child that we rotate our very other year we claim the kids. You may have time to add that or ask the judge for that.

My dude As a single dad myself 50/50 I did the odd years me, even years her . When tax time came ,war was in the air. I was stressed just like you and I eventually told her to claim him from now on. I've been good since then . My son was 3 when I told her and he is now 12 and I give two poops about tax credits, and money.

My experience - unless it is documented with the court then it's first come first serve (whoever files first gets the credit).

When I asked my ex for some sort of agreement as to how we could switch off each year she was not amenable as she had already filed and claimed the credit. I took her to court over this, trying to have our agreement modified. Judge told me to go pound sand. Now I file as soon as possible each January and claim the credit.
