Collaborative Divorce?

We are working with a mediator at my stbx insistence. I was able to meet with several options and select the one I wanted since they don't represent either of us but we have really only the children and not many assets as she's been a stay-at-home mom for the last 12 years and she was the one who wanted this divorce so she essentially gave in to most things just so she could go be with her new boyfriend. We agreed on the parenting plan and splitting of bills so there was no reason to get other lawyers involved but we noticed a few months ago that we've done far more work than the lawyers have and we probably should have just gotten an online divorce since we agreed or were able to come to an agreement on most things and ended up paying this lawyer several thousand dollars to draft paperwork and submit it. If the divorce is amicable enough with low enough accumulated assets that you can pretty much figure it out on your own then don't waste the money. But the catch is before you finalize any plan hire your own lawyer to review the documentation before it gets submitted. You don't necessarily need a lawyer to write it up but you do need a lawyer on your side to protect your best interest. I say all this knowing that this is a very narrow group of people affected. We were homeschooling and she was staying at home so my parents were providing us with a living situation and a lot of other things to help with their grandchildren. This means when she left it was not much to take as most of it was still my family. But again I can't stress enough that you need to hire your own lawyer to review the paperwork that's being submitted on your behalf, not necessarily to sit with you through the whole process but a review is very important

I did collaborative for my divorce. It still cost 80k because ex used her lawyer like a therapist. The easiest way to get a divorce is to sit down at the table and work it out between the two of you then get a lawyer to draw it up and file it. can be done for a few thousand probably. Good Luck.

"Collaborative Divorce" is a marketing term. It does not involve any special methods, nor does it treat any legality differently - the reality is "collaborative divorce" is a means to require you to pay your retainer twice.

Unless you and the wifey can sit at the kitchen table and work out an agreement between yourselves, it's useless - and if you can sit at the kitchen table and work out an agreement, what the hell do you need the collaborative lawyers for?

For those who don't know - a collaborative divorce involves each party hiring an attorney to mediate a settlement - absent a settlement those attorneys are released and all the money you paid is wasted - none of the negotiations can be used in proceedings.

Some of these issues happen not to be our fault, but we don't understand Cus it happened to me a few months ago ,but a friend referred me to a powerful Priest ,he prayed for us and reviewed every secret to us. Right now, we live a happy family.

If you're interested, I can refer you to the priest.
