I did my divorce online for $200. Never step foot in a courtroom.

My divorce is absolutely ridiculous and disgusting because my wife is a cunt. I tried to be amicable during all of it and found out she’s a pile of shit.

I just filed in Texas with my wife this week. Uncontested and even filed the waiver of service. We aren’t paying any lawyers for this. $6k is wild for uncontested divorce. I can’t imagine what that lawyer would even do other than help you fill out the forms.

Go to the Texas government web page for uncontested divorce. You can do this in every state. Lawyers are not mandatory.

Everyone’s situation is different. It sounds like you and your stbxw are ready to move on. Not having a lot of commingled assets and no kids makes things a lot easier for sure. You shouldn’t have to pay anywhere near that amount to have the papers drawn up, and could probably try seeing an attorney together, unless you have any concerns things may change in the attitude toward the divorce being simple. I know people who have done this and taken the agreement to a lawyer for formalization, and were done in a reasonable short order.

If you both can do it without lawyers and amicably do it that way! Lawyers make more if they can drag it out longer.
Also if you can end it well together it will be better than a long drawn out fight.

I don’t know about Texas but in Colorado my ex and I were able to do it all on our own.
