Very easy to do so in many US states. Check your county court website for the forms needed. Many states have introduced online option, no financial disclosure or court appearance these days. Just fill in the forms, pay ~$300, get her to sign (somehow), file online, wait for 3 (or more months), use court facilitator for final decree and you are done!

You walk down to your county courthouse and ask the clerk how to file for divorce. They will walk you through every step. Super easy, I'd put it on the same level as doing your own taxes.

You file, you serve your spouse, in about 2 weeks you are divorced if it is uncontested. You never have to set foot inside the court room or even see a judge.

Also there are services that you can get to help you select and prepare the forms whose fees are a fraction of a lawyer’s fee.

If you have any significant assets or debts or custody/support issues then you really should have a good local divorce attorney.

Yes it is entirely possible to file for divorce and complete it yourself provided you and your STBXW are amicable. I filed for divorce myself and then retained a lawyer. $85k later and I am finally divorced.

The steps and procedures are going to be State dependent.
