I am a 29M and looking for advice on career post divorce. I have 43 credits towards a 120 credit B.S. in University Studies. I can earn the degree all online so I can continue to work. I also have a 12 year old son from teenage relationship. I have it pretty easy on child support, I have a good relationship with his mom. I currently have a decent job where I only work 4 days a week and make around $55K a year. This isn’t what I want to do forever though, it’s more of a means to some kind of end.

Going back to school when I had two incomes due to marriage seemed pretty reasonable and STBX supported me doing so. I have some family/friends telling me to find a career that will make me happy regardless of the money. I’d like to coach/teach at the high school level here in Texas. Not sure if getting started in that profession in my early 30’s is a good idea or not. Not the best money and not a lot of job security.

I live in the Oil/Gas region of the state so I could find a trade and go that route. That’s not what I could see myself being happy doing but could make more money. My STBX works at the university I attend so I was going to receive a tuition discount and that’s now out of the question. I’ll be paying out of pocket and hopefully get some financial aide.

Anyone go back to college after divorce at roughly 30 years old to find happiness and purpose? Should I just earn a paycheck due to my situation ,or earn a B.S. that could provide multiple outlets/opportunities?
