If yours dropped questions on the ex, he should also prepare you with questions he thinks you have to be able to answer and go through them with you.

Usually the questions are boilerplate. But I think your lawyer should have definitely let you see a copy before he filed. There could be questions that you already know are totally irrelevant. Also, no one knows you marriage better than you. Perhaps you could have helped craft some questions specific to your wife.

The lingering issue is that, in some states, there is a limit to the number of questions that can be asked in Discovery. So, for example, if your lawyer asked her about any pensions that she receives, and any disability pay that she receives, and any patents that she owns (just random examples) -- AND -- you already know the answer is "none" to each of them, well, your lawyer just asked three questions. In my state, there was a limit of 20 or 25 questions. After your lawyer reaches the maximum, that's it. So, it's best to ask thoughtful questions that actually apply to your situation.

It's standard. I did them in my divorce. They're little more than a fishing expedition.
