Throwaway account post.

Background: I am in NY and weighing my options. Two kids under 10, married 10 years. House, two cars, all paid off, and not carrying any debt of any kind. Things aren’t good at home. She wants to salvage it, but mentally I am just so done, and so tired.

Haven’t met with a lawyer, been served, or filed myself, but I have a consult appointment with an attorney set in February.

I am considering leasing a nice, furnished, month-to-month place nearby—think higher-end AirBNB—to have in my back pocket, just in case things go south quickly and I need somewhere to retreat to help me be more clear-headed in the midst of the mindfuckery at home. (I am fortunate in that the rent won’t be a big deal for me financially.)

BUT, I don’t plan to actually move anywhere until I get solid advice from my attorney, who, again, I am meeting with in February. This decision is more about me locking down a soft place to land in case I need it.

Is this just stupid? Am I overlooking or not considering something adequately that perhaps I should be? Thoughts and opinions welcome.
