My wife and I have been married for 6 years. She recently said that she wants to file for divorce because I "have not validated her feelings and value my own feelings above hers." This is my first marriage, this is her third. We have an amazing 5 year old son together and she has three other kids from her previous marriages (daughter 19, son 18, son 13). I am a mess. I'm really in the (I guess you could say 'depression' stage) based on what others have posted. I'm trying to make sense of it all, but failing. I just recently read the statistics for the divorce rates on 3rd and subsequent marriages: 70%-80%. I think if I would have known this information at the beginning, I would have waited and looked for more red flags...so this is all on me, because I didn't. I intended on living up to my vows. Never beat her or hurt her or cheated or was careless with finances. We both have good careers and make good money. So here's the thing: she's a lawyer, although not one that does divorces. She's a probate attorney and she owns her own business. She makes double the income that I do (I build custom homes in Florida.) I'm really not knowing what to expect out of this (she has been through it twice). I don't know if I should be building/formulating some strategy to navigate the divorce, or if I should hire a divorce attorney (which will no doubt be very expensive:?) I just feel lost. Any insight into what to expect or how to protect myself and our son would be appreciated. **Its 2:41am on a Saturday night and I can't sleep. I'm working on finding the bottom of a bottle of Glenlivet single malt scotch.
