Just over 4 years ago my wife’s parents came to live with us because they could no longer take care of themselves. Within 5 months her dad passed away but her mom is still with us. We sold their house and used the equity to buy a house that is in my wife’s name and my mother in laws name. We have lived there for just over 3 years. I saw a clip from a lawyer saying that even though the house is not in my name I may be entitled to a portion of the equity if we divorce because this is considered martial property because it is our legal dwelling and the marital dwelling despite that my name is not on the title or loan. Now if we take morality out of the question because of where those down payment funds came from is this potentially correct?
