• Ignore this bad advice. Stop all contributions to my employer match retirement account. If matching exactly, my wife would get all the match anyway, so I would not have lost out on the "free money" of the employer match, my ex-wife would have. Instead, I should have opened a new Roth IRA and put the money in there.
  • Pay off marital debts with martial assets. I made the mistake of thinking amicable meant fast. The process dragged on far longer than I imagined even though we didn't fight about anything. I essentially paid her several thousand extra by paying off the debt on my own.
  • The second point connects to this one. I should have gone after everything. She always had shitty paying jobs and a tiny retirement account. Fuck it. I should have gone after that as well, no matter how small it was. It may have been small, but it would have still bee a few thousand extra in my pocket. I should have also pushed to have more debt declared as marital debt.
