Somehow, I think it started in the mid 90s, an idea spread that parents need to assist with any and all afterschool activities without limit. It was very normal, as a child of the 80s, for a parent to say "Soccer or Baseball. History Club or Chess Club. Track or Swimming. Not both. If I take you to the mall, you'll have to get another parent to pick you up."

Get a therapist, they can help and be your outlet. It's normal to feel these things especially when your kids are young. It will get better. You can do this and your kids will appreciate it.

Get yourself into therapy. Instead of battling the kids, make them part of house maintenance. Make yourself go to the gym so you have a "third place" beside home and work. Even if you just spend time in the sauna, it will be meditative and have a huge impact on your mental health.

Let go of the small stuff. Don't take on new stuff - pets, vehicles, or social obligations. Cut out social media entirely.

This all gets better with time. Imagine being in the same situation but also losing the house and having to share custody. You've done better than a huge, huge majority of the guys here. Count your blessings. Parenting is tough but money really is just money.

Can you afford to hire help? I have a housekeeper once evert few weeks. Worth its weight in gold. Would do once a week if I could swing it. Also I did therapy once a week for a few years post separation and it helped a lot.

My kids are young, and being a single dad even half the time has been hard. I'm likely going to get primary custody here in a few weeks. Sometimes I ask myself, "Geez do I really want this all the time?" But the answer is, no, I don't. I don't want to be a full-time, single dad. I want to be a husband and share the load with my wife.

But that's not an option anymore, so Ill take the next best option.
