Get back to them the best you can. My STBX is fighting to take my child back to her bum fuck town that is 10 hours away. Fighting like hell to make sure that does not happen.

You can't be an influential parent to your children when you live 1200 miles away. You need to live in their school district. 99% of the time you will ever spend with your children is before they graduate high school. There is no time "later": After high school you'll be lucky to spend one week a year for about 30 years with them.
