Apparently in the US if your parents live with you or support you then their finances will also be pulled into the divorce.

There's no such thing as "in the US" - this is state by state and I've never seen nor heard of a divorce where the parents of one party's assets were subject to division, except where it was proven that the assets were bought for them using marital assets without the knowledge or consent of the other spouse.

This post seems like bullshit or a troll.

Why is it a mistake? I think you are quite lucky as you may get to keep all the assets you have earned. Its very rare to involve third parties in divorce financial disputes. You can just transfer your money into your parents account and tell your ex during discovery, it was to settle prior obligations.

Your parents money has absolutely nothing to do with your divorce, they are not married to your stbx. The big fight here won't be money don't be confused it's going to be custody. Custody is generally where the big money is spent. I think you have a leg up here because your home is your parents which means you have witnesses many many witnesses, who are there everyday!
