I am an attorney. When my divorce first became an inevitability, I filed an initial Complaint on my own because my STBXW was in agreement with me on how to do things. The minute she quit agreeing, I began looking for an attorney to represent me.

Even as an attorney, I would not go in the courtroom on a contested case and represent myself.

My cousin is a divorce lawyer and she says that the judge will either think you don't care, or are a know-it-all.

Neither one does you any favors.

Divorce is not the time to DIY. It's the time to bust open your savings. You get one chance to get it right.

Im very conflicted with this one. I hired an attorney to prepare, respond, set up court dates, etc. im very well prepared, I do pay for consultations, mediations etc so i’ll see how it goes, if I see she’s stupid at mediation then back to attorney for hearing.
