Ranting about the latest development.

I thought we were close. The last time we talked was because her lawyer sent me counter-counter proposal. We were down to a few issues. I wanted 50/50 custody which was a change from our previous agreement. Due to covid lockdown, I realized that I wanted to see my kids more and that I wanted 50/50. The STBXW tentatively agreed to that but said she had to talk to lawyer. The next issue is that I was giving her the rental property, but would not pay for improvements prior to sale or capital gains taxes. Lawyer wanted me to pay for half of both even though I would not get any of the sales profits. Finally, in return for her not claiming my military retirement, she would get the house. Lawyer was using the loss of retirement as part of the division equation, but I didn't get to recognize loss of house. Anyway, I told her that we should talk and could probably come to an agreement without the lawyers. Today, I received another packet from her lawyer with another proposal that rejects my changes. I called STBXW and said why didn't we talk about this instead of having the lawyer do more paperwork? STBXW didn't want to talk and said she isn't strong enough and needs the lawyer to stand up to me. Her lawyer wants to meet with me and my lawyer to discuss in lieu of going to mediation which will cost more. I need to talk to my lawyer tomorrow, but know he's going to charge me a lot since I've been using him as a document reviewer and now he's going to have to review everything and prepare. This sucks. What could have been an amicable and fairly low cost divorce is going to get expensive and the worst part is that if we go to mediation, I think it'll end up with my going in position which is 50/50 split on everything (kids, house, rental property, etc.) which will be more trouble for her and the kids since they'll have to move out of the house. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I feel better already.
