The very first thing you need to do is check your state laws about recording consent. Also, if you are paying for the car/in your name, consent may not be necessary, at least for GPS.

VAR in the car is a common practice, definitely read the reviews and get one that doesn't make any noises. Generally velcroing under the seat is the preferred method. Be aware that recording conversations you are not a party to is illegal in many cases. I don't know of any cases where spouses suspecting infidelity were charged with such things - that isn't really the purpose of the law - but that doesn't mean you won't become the new precedent or that it couldn't be used against you in some fashion as others have pointed out.

GPS you can probably be in the clear especially if you have some interest in the vehicle.

It sounds like this one might be a lost cause regardless of infidelity, so I agree with other posters that maybe cutting your losses and filing is your best route. Get a consult with a lawyer, if you live in a no-fault state then I would skip the investigation and file.

She wants to start a business

She wants you to provide the money for this business and you don't have it

She's become bitter and avoids home

You don't need a recording device, you need to begin carefully planning the next chapter of your life separate from her. Tracking someone using GPS is very likely illegal unless you're LE - so don't do it.

If she won't do the free Life360 plan with you, she's hiding something. Her reaction to that suggestion will tell you all you need to know.

I would not go down this route. Precarious legally. By that I mean even if it is legal to do this, you are making an anti harassment, stalking, or restraining order very very easy to write.

If you find out your wife is cheating, skip the details and get a divorce. If you can’t get the evidence but she’s treating you like garbage, your decision gets a little tougher. Still would not recommend the trackers at all.

In my experience she is already organizing a place to live once she separates from you. She is just waiting for you to do something that gives her the reason to move out. Putting a surveillance device in her car is actually taking the bait that will give her the moral high ground in your future separation and divorce.

So if you put some apple tag or recording device in her car … she’s probably just going to find it and angrily move out. This move is just going to backfire in my opinion and it’s not worth trying.

If you really don’t trust her at this point, why not just see a divorce lawyer? I wouldn’t want to stay with a spouse I thought was cheating on me.

If you want to try saving the marriage, just begin counseling now instead damaging the relationship further? If you really need to catch her cheating for some reason can you hire a private investigator who can work discretely?
