Hi everyone, I'm 2 years past divorce, 2 kids and living life as best as possible.

One of the things on my to-do list is setting up a will and a way to protect my house/investments/future and I'm just in the starting stage of things. #1, I wanted to know for those that have set up wills/trusts before, what are some good things to know before setting out? My goals are twofold, protect what I have now from ever being taken and 2, how to make sure my kids are taken care of in the event something happens to me. Thankfully, I have was quite lucky after my divorce to land a good house, keep the vast majority of my investments and have a very good job that has taken care of me. I have done really well after divorce and I want to make sure nothing is lost. My kids are still very young (<7) and my parents are getting up there in years, so I'm not sure the best course of action for an executor. My brother is one idea but he is out of state.

Anyways, any general advice would be super helpful!
