I thought I had no other choice for the sake of our son. But all everyone else had said so far had led me to the feeling of no other choice. For me it was a compounded series of behavior, feelings, risk vs reward.

I had her served, she was shocked. I could have convinced her to sign anything in her state of mind. But I'm not a complete asshole... She went to see a lawyer. We talked and agreed we trusted each other more than attorneys.

In talking, she has agreed to work on herself, now understands that I alone cannot contribute to the happiness of the unwilling. Now I see a path before us that had not been there. Now I need to muster up more energy, beyond all that had been sapped out of me, to give her a chance to regain her 'self', define her identity and become the woman I first fell in love with.

Of course I'm no fool... This could all lead to her having me served in 20 years... Right?? But that sort of thinking will not help the cause, which is building a happy home for our boy.

That is all I need.

For me, it was about my kids but a bit differently than you might expect. I finally realized it was over when I realized that my kids were going to model their marriage after what they saw with my XW and me. That was what pushed me over the edge.
