Long story short, I now have 90% custody of our daughter. She sees her every other weekend but often cancels. In the divorce and settlement two years ago she walked away with about $60,000 in cash. We are currently going through a dispute regarding child support. We had a two-year marriage where she brought nothing to the table financially and I put the down payment on our house and afforded us a certain lifestyle. Currently, I make roughly $120,000 to her $90,000.

We are currently going through a dispute regarding child support. The financial support calculators show that she would be on the hook for around $1000 per month in addition to having to pay just under half of the expenses for extracurriculars and afterschool programs.

As part of our disclosures, she now shows that she has almost no money in her checking account, and is paying off debt relief of over $1500 a month in addition to our student loans.

I guess my question is to any guys who have been in a similar situation , how aggressively should I pursue the money that I am owed? She already hasn’t paid any support or for extracurriculars since July. I am owed roughly $6000, how aggressively should I pursue the money that I am owed? My lawyer informs me that I’ll get roughly $2000 a month plus the backpay, but based off of what she has disclosed, this would bankrupt her and put her in a huge hole. I don’t think it’s in my daughters, best interest for her mother to have an incredibly unstable home. I’m conflicted with what decision I should make next.

Part of me thanks that this should be a wake up call for her. This is money that’s supposed to be for the betterment of our daughters childhood. Instead, two years out from our divorce she’s had multiple trips to Mexico and Las Vegas has bought and sold a new car and then purchased another new car. Needless to say she is absolutely awful with her money.I don’t know whether or not I should add the additional strain, but I’m leaning towards yes.
