This resonates. When I reflect on the past, it's like living with a bully. Do something against their way, you get anger and verbal abuse. Do something their way, it's never good enough or you get belittlement. There's no peace. No win condition.

I've had to turn inwards, stop being myself and exercising extreme stoicism.

Grey rock mode. Only communicate via text. Don't take the bait when she tries to bait you into fights. Get a recorder and record every interaction. Beware of phony claims of DV to get false restraining orders to boot you from the house. Good luck.

I’m 6 weeks in, but it sounds like the same situation as yours. 13 years of gaslighting, belittling, ignoring, controlling, and so much more. Textbook narcissist. But for economic and coparenting reasons we are still living together. Life is such shit right now I can’t even describe.

I had to survive like this for 3 months until I could move out. It took that long to get a legal framework in place for support and visitation pre divorce. That first weekend I was alone in my new house was just amazing, I literally ran around it cheering at the top of my voice. Even though most men experience a step down in standards (at least initially), having your own place with the peace, quiet and lack of a nagging bitch is priceless.

Thanks fellas, I’m trying to stay focused on getting my thing together…I haven’t had to think/be myself for a long time. A good therapist is on my team and my support system is strong. The only way out is through I can’t avoid the truth any longer. Hang tough my brothers!
