Hi, a family member got me thinking about a future situation. In the past, my ex threatened to divorce me for taking our oldest child, who was our only child at that time, to the beach for two nights while she was working. Our work schedules have always been opposite, making it difficult for us to do anything spur-of-the-moment. After initially agreeing, she changed her mind a few days later and eventually said I couldn't take our child with my mom to the beach at all.
My ex and I agreed that I could take the children on vacation at the end of July, and I agreed she could take them the first week of August.
However, a family member expressed concerns about what would happen if my ex flips the script again and says I can't take the children that week. We are still in the process of setting up a custody arrangement, so we are in a bit of a limbo right now.
I'm considering a few strategies. One option is to ignore my ex, as that approach worked once before. I could take the children anyway and then inform her that I don’t agree with her new proposal, sticking with the original agreement. I'm not sure that tactic would work again, though.
Another option is to agree with my ex and then take the children regardless. I would inform her while we’re on vacation that I don't agree to her new proposal and would drop the kids off on the day we initially agreed upon a few months ago.
Would these be bad ways to handle the situation?
