I met my stbx in the school parking lot last week. It was an unexpected meeting, the day after my daughter’s 5th birthday.
It was my week with the kids, and although my ex was not formally invited to come over to the house the evening before, I would not have refused to let her stop by, drop off gifts or call if she had requested to do that. Now, I can’t stand the sight of this woman, but I would do anything for my daughter especially on her birthday. I did send her pictures of the cake and my daughter blowing out the candles.
The reason the meeting in the parking lot took place was because I had forgotten about a doctor’s appointment that was scheduled for my daughter that morning. My ex was coming to pick my daughter up from school in order to take her to the doctor.
As we parted ways, I rolled down the window in order to hand something to my ex. I said to her, “you should have called”. That was all. She asked “about what?”. I said, “your daughter’s birthday”. She said, “oh, be quiet” in a very upset tone.
I drove away, nothing more said. No squealing tires. No insults. Just drove away. She left to bring my daughter to the doctor.
She texts me 1.5 hrs later - “call me - its important”. So I call her and ask if everything is all right. I’m assuming it has something to do with my daughter’s doctor visit. She says, “physically, yes everything is OK”. She was clearly upset over the phone. Now I’m worried. She then launches into a huge fit about how she will not “allow me to verbally abuse and degrade her in front of my daughter.”
This continues for several minutes. So, when she finally comes up for air, I question - “are you insane?” She objects. I then state, “well, on the contrary, I think you’ve gone quite mad.”
We talk talk for a while longer, I get her to admit that there was no insults, no yelling, no acts of aggression, no abusive language or acts whatsoever. WTFF?
She is a fucking twit. Are they so sensitive and coached now that any statement merely suggesting that their actions were questionable can be classified as abusive behavior? I would just laugh this off, except for the fact that she has already had me falsely during our separation.
This shit is just irritating and I think now all communications will have to be done by email only. Did I cross some kind of invisible line? Did my actions or statement qualify as abusive in any way?

One more thing. I used to have these types of arguments with my wife. I would believe her that she was really confused or hurt about things so I would explain stuff to her. Mostly outrageous accusations she'd make. Then I realized she understood me, she just liked to argue. You can't reason with a crazy person. Only one of you is conversing in good faith. It's a cry for attention. She just liked to argue and would invent something to argue about to do it. She would wear me down until I ended up apologizing for something I never did or ever thought about doing. So I changed. I started to answer the questions once, politely and fully and end the conversation. She didn't like that but she wasn't going to be happy anyway. It ended the crazy conversations tho.

There was this fellow who bought a body cam and wore it whenever he met his ex. Sounds weird but he says she cooled off knowing that she was being filmed and yes, they are that sensitive. I would elaborate but you defined it perfectly in your question.
Good luck, Sir.
