Well, I thought I was happy with my attorney but in retrospect I can see why we are where we are. I started with him through a personal connection and he offered to help me for very cheap. Then my wife moved out 2 months ago, started tossing out the word “attorney”, and so I moved quickly to file. He helped me with that but since then I’ve had a hard time feeling like I was being prioritized in a way that I felt good about, obviously because he was working for cheap when he was working on my case. In follow ups I felt guilty and high maintenance which isn’t a strategy I think will yield good results. So he’s “letting me go” which is the right move. We’re a ways into the process now (she answered, I answered her counter, we’re in the initial disclosures phase now) and I’m in the process of looking for new representation. One guy I’ve talked to charges weekly, but says he’d feel comfortable presenting her with a settlement within a week once he’s up to speed. I think we could probably settle fairly painlessly since we’re currently doing 50/50 with no drama and the numbers are fairly simple. If we’re going to trial, paying $500 weekly for an attorney could be painful, but if we’re closing in on wrapping things up it could be very efficient.

I’m just looking for some input or any experience you all have had with attorney fees other than hourly. Thanks!
