Working through a divorce to my wife of almost 23 yrs. selling the home, splitting the equity, about $100k. Bank accounts, and we each keep our own 401k. Marital assets, we agreed to splitting them post signing, which I am good with. Her income to mine is the issue. I make about 3x her salary base, along with bonus I receive of about another 15k. We were told by the mediator that I should pay her $3475/mo! We talked and so told her I would be sleeping down by the river in my truck!! She offered $2k/mo for 10 years. I said yes. Mediator drew up agreement and said we need outside counsel to sign off. My attorney reviewed agreement and said it looks good. Her attorney says you’re leaving a lot of money on the table and you need to take a couple weeks and think about that and won’t sign off. Every time I ask questions we argue, because I said the intent of the mediators was to Legally review the agreement, not provide legal advice. If that were the intent, why didn’t my attorney say you could be paying less if you fight this?! Now awaiting her next “discussion” with her attorney and don’t know where I’ll end up. Am I looking at this wrong?
