Get her ass working ASAP. If she's short on credits to finish a degree get her on it to get her degree.

Impute her income. As the floor, her income is full-time minimum wage for your area. The ceiling is either a previous job or having a vocational evaluation performed if she's got a degree or is under-employed. The eval will cost about $5k, but pays for itself in the first year of support calcs.

There a number of factors involved. You provided no information about your marriage/divorce case, but in general you want her working and earning as much as possible - the goal being to minimize the disparity in income (and earning potential) as much as possible. Also, familiarize with State alimony laws. Really you need to hire a lawyer if you're at risk for long-term alimony obligations. A good one can help with this kind of pre-divorce planning.

You need to be proactive on that, not reactive. This is my personal experience, and yes, I avoided Alimony, and my now exwife was demanding 50% of my take home pay as alimony because she said she was "too sick to work." She wanted to continue to be a SAHM, and she wanted maximum child support too.

First of all, get proof that she is capable of working. I had a copy of her previous year's W2, and I presented that as evidence. She had been fired from her job for now showing up, and then refused to work after that.

Second, if she's not working, she needs to be assessed at what she is capable of making. My exwife was given a "deeded income" of Minimum wage 40 hours.

Third, I went for 50/50 custody, so that eliminated her need to be a SAHM.

Fourthly, I showed that she was being completely unreasonable in her demands, because if you added up everything she was demanding, it was more than I made.
