Take anything of value both sentimental and financial. Get these items out immediately and stash them with a friend or family member.

After that, just like so many have already said, don’t leave the house unless you are forced to or already have an agreement in place, and I don’t mean verbal anything.

If you leave the house without an agreement in writing, you are basically giving her the house and you’ll be lucky to get her to buy you out after the fact.

Also after the first item I mentioned, go talk to a lawyer. Don’t let your heartbreak cloud your judgement. I don’t care what she says right now, once you start going through the process she will start lying and painting you as the bad guy. Then she becomes the victim which will be used against you in every way possible.

My STBX and I are still cohabitating, but talking about the division of the little things. Who gets the vacuum cleaner? The broom? The iron? The dishes? The coffee maker? The list goes on and on.

I’ve told her she can take whatever she wants, but to tell me if she’s taking something that I’ll need to buy a replacement for.

Toiletries, believe it or not, I forgot all my beard trimming stuff, and basic bathroom stuff at the house when I left.

Family photos. (I know a guy whose ex got mad and destroyed all his baby pictures).

Anything sentimental that you want to keep.

Paperwork. I literally grabbed the entire filing cabinet so I was the one to go through our important documents, not her. Be sure to reset all passwords. If you have a joint banking account, be sure to get your money out before she clears it out

Important paperwork - birth certificate,
Passport, etc.

Also ensure you have copies of any joint bank statements and credit cards. You may need these for a future loan.
