*Caveat: I'm answering this in the hypothetical of 20-30 years ago since I'm in my late 50s and no woman my age still has kids who are dependent on her. She's instantly disqualified if she does, barring special circumstances.*

I'd certainly not rule it out. If our personalities and world views are compatible, that's a plus. If she's accomplished and has made her way on her own and demonstrates ambition and independence, another plus. Deal breaker would be if the child is a train wreck.

This rule has come into effect a few times. Met a woman back in the '90s who was spectacularly successful, but her 12-year-old son was a hot mess. She had horribly overindulged the poor lad, and showered him with expensive trinkets in an attempt to compensate for the fact that she spent very little time with him...and in that time, she was often distracted.

He had been emotionally abandoned, and had developed several defiant and disruptive coping mechanisms by which to get the attention from his mother which he should have received organically and voluntarily. The dynamic between them reminded me way too much of the dysfunctional dynamic between my own mother and me during my upbringing. I couldn't bear to watch it, so I had do leave after a few months.
