I've always wondered why right-wingers have this tendency. Considering how anti-science so many are. Considering how much they emphasize personal responsibility. Personal responsibility means that people do indeed think for themselves and don't just go off their biological instincts. How do they claim social influence is negligible, while also trying to push their own influence on others?

Not every single thing we do as people is motivated by biology. Culture and how society is structured has just as much of an influence. Have an open mind to that and get some sociology in your life.

Biological reductionism is very seductive because it has a logic to it that seems to be "objective" as it is undeniable that biology obviously does have a significant influence on human existence.

But applying the principles of Darwinian evolution to human psychology and behavior is not grounded in science.

Social Darwinism is a supremacist, pseudoscientific philosophy invented by Herbert Spencer (it was he, and not Darwin, who came up with "survival of the fittest") to justify European domination of the world via imperialism and racism and to excuse the brutal capitalism of the industrial revolution. It is philosophically related to apartheid and fascism and it is not conducive to a civilized society.

Nevertheless it can be difficult to disentangle oneself from this view because it is signal boosted constantly on the internet and it is presented in a way that seems to give it scientific legitimacy.

But if you buy into it at a deep level it can seriously screw you up because if you don't have an attractive girlfriend or aren't getting laid or feel that all women reject you, well, the logical conclusion is that it's natural selection at work and nature just told you that you are an inferior specimen, a loser, an evolutionary deadender who is being cycled out of the gene pool.

It's a very bitter pill (pun unintended) that's almost impossible to swallow so redpillers project their self-loathing onto women and their cognitive dissonance causes them to dig themselves into a deeper and deeper hole from which there is no easy way out.

Redpill and the Social Darwinism that underpins it dehumanizes not only women but also redpillers themselves and the only way out is to change your understanding of how society operates and, for the reasons I mentioned, that can be very difficult to do.

OP's suggestion to open yourself to the sociological imagination is a great one if you are looking for a credible redpill antidote. Also ask yourself if redpill is so objective and universal why did almost nobody view dating and heterosexual relationships through this lens until very recently?

Talk to your older friends and relatives and ask them how they viewed dating in the 80s and 90s. Could it be that the dysfunctions that plague contemporary society, and the philosophies used to make sense of them, are products of recent political and economic changes that have hugely increased, and entrenched, social inequality?

What role does the internet and dating apps like Tinder that take cold, market logic and apply it to human relationships by forcing people to commodify themselves play?

If you are a redpiller who is tired of redpill's negative feedback loop and looking for a way out that gives you your dignity and humanity back while keeping you grounded in reality, sociology is where your journey begins.

I'll have to add this to the list. It looks like the author is more interested in studying the causes and socioeconomic factors that keep propping up the redpill and PUA cottage industries.

In these conversations it often is someone using an academic lense to essentially say "thing bad" and looking for people to brandish as examples of freaks ruining things. instead of going deeper to ask the question of "why is this thing drawing so many people in? What pain points are the key players using to herd millions of men into this? Why does it seem on the surface to have such success and remain so persistent? And finally 'what isn't being said or done that can prevent this from continuing?'

I look at redpill rhetoric the same way I look at anti black and indigenous racism in the United States. It is an attractive ideology because it tells white Americans that they are entitled to the best of everything and they are a special people with nothing to feel responsible for. The schools neglect to teach the true depth of America's history, the culture at large promotes limited depictions of non white people, so then your rational assumption in this social melange is to say you're not racist while supporting racist policies and defending structural racism. Like how Donald Trump would say "im the least racist person you've ever met" while saying Mexicans are rapists and killers and 'some' are good people and refusing to unambiguously denounce white supremacy.

So it is with men and dating and masculinity. What aren't they teaching us in schools about how to express desire or interact with the opposite sex? What messages are we being sold in our media and in advertising about what makes us 'successful' or complete as men?
