Your whole argument for women being better drivers then men is based on insurance company standards. Insurance companies don’t care about how good somebody is at driving they care about how often they will have to pay out. So in short, these insurance numbers don’t directly correlate with driving ability.

Some of the reasons:

⁠Men drive further distances each year
⁠Men drive faster and are more likely to break speed limits
⁠Men drive under the influence more often then their female counterparts
⁠Men are more likely to drive longer distances in one sitting (reduced alertness)
⁠Men are more likely to drive with loud music (reduces awareness and concentration)
⁠People often sort out crashes privately without getting insurance companies involved (thus the insurance company doesn’t have to pay out)

These are just a few of the many factors insurance companies take into consideration. This is evidence enough that the gender differences in insurance company standards are not a reflection of the raw driving ability of the sexes.

When discussing how is worse/better at driving, different parameters come into question, such as:

⁠How quick can they drive to a given location
⁠Can they drive smoothly
⁠How likely are they to get into a crash whilst driving
⁠How far can they drive in one sitting
⁠Can they drive different cars and/or learn to drive a car they haven’t driven before relatively quickly
⁠Do they compete competitively in motorsports?
⁠Are they confident at driving?

I am not here to argue one way or the other. The answer is more complicated then meets the eye as is usual because the answer is rarely black or white, it is usually somewhere in the grey. However, to say women are better drivers then men based solely on insurance company standards is very insincere and ignorant.

I listed a few things that can increase the likelihood of making poor driving decisions. (Loud music, alcohol, long distance, trying to show off speeding).

These things men do more then women. Therefore, the men that do these things make poorer decisions thus leading to more crashes and accidents.

My point is this: If there are two football players, let’s call them player A and player B who play for a local team. (This is based off of a real scenario in my life)

Player B is a better player than player A. When they are both fully fit, had adequate sleep and ate well, player B is the better player 9 times out of 10.

However, player B turns up to games oftentimes hungover, tired and under-slept. When this happens Player A actually plays better then player B.

But

When player B turns up and is fresh as a daisy he 9 times out of 10 outplays player A. However, most of the time he is hungover so over the course of the season player A has put in the more consistent performances.

Which player would you say is the better player?

I can’t really explain the point I’m trying to make any better then this.

The one who has the consistently better record, obviously. And to be frank, that's how everyone making these decisions looks at it. Undisciplined players don't tend to make it to the pros, they usually won't even get very far on high school and college teams. If you're causing your team more trouble than it is worth, you ride the bench a lot, you lose a lot of your chances to grow.

But your metaphor doesn't even work for this situation anyway, because you haven't shown any data that shows men are better drivers in any way, it's just this thing you're assuming for some reason. What we do have is data that women as a demographic are better in all of these important ways, and no data that men as a demographic are better in any way.

Which, to be honest, doesn't mean much to me anyway. I wouldn't look at some random man and be like "he's probably a bad driver" because demographic data doesn't tell us much about an individual. But when people start talking about "women" being bad at driving, it's a fucking joke. The only clear data we have shows the exact opposite.
