I'm Aussie and also found the money bit of FDS the hardest to get my head around because it's so alien to dating culture here in my experience. I'm giving it a go though! Last 3 dates I didn't offer to pay for anything. No follow up dates but that could be for any reason. Also the only dinners thing, it's so committing vs the easy fast escape from an after work drink which was always my preference but I'm trying it too for something different.

Not Aussie here but it’s not really a cultural thing; men and women have both been wrongly taught over the last few decades that it’s somehow empowering for women to pay their own way on dates. It isn’t, because it just sets you up for failure. Players, plate spinners, fuckboys, abusers, and users all WILL NOT BOTHER to court you if they have to pay for dates because you won’t be worth the effort to them. They’ll eliminate themselves and just move on to the next woman that doesn’t cost them any type of investment. I don’t need anyone to pay my way either, but going Dutch all my life has left me with men that had no respect for me. To them I looked desperate. (which I’m not)

Fellow Aussie here too. There is a bit of a cultural difference I’ve found. I’ve always offered to split bill or buy my own drinks and have found that it’s pretty standard.

Maybe coffee instead or during the day date? Following as I’m interested in what other ladies say.

I actually dated an Aussie who's damn near turned full American after being here too long, about 20 yrs. He also had an American dad. Strong accent though and some very Aussie tattoos. Anyway, he was older and insisted on paying for everything. Said he feels a man should take care of a woman. Too bad he had the worst ED ever at 45 yrs old and faded on me after a couple dates where we got hot and heavy.

Just remembered I got asked out by Aussies in the UK. This was back in 2007. The first one was really into me and paid for all my drinks. We're still decent friends and message here and there. The next one might have been just bored and wanting to get out. He paid for my drink and then later insisted I pay for the next round. That was weird as hell for me being an American girl. No guy had ever done that. And I had been on plenty dates at that age (26). He also refused to kiss me under the mistletoe when this man came round with one. So he had me friend zoned early on LOL
