I’m writing for your advice for a situation we’ve probably all been in, in one form or another.

I just can’t get over this one LVM narcissist. He treated me horribly in so many ways. He wanted to keep me a secret, yelled at me when I told people we knew in common that we were dating, wanted to keep things casual/not commit but left crumbs of hope that maybe we would get into a relationship. I made all the mistakes with him. He’s a true clown- he’s 48 to my 28 but wants to have kids?? (I don’t, which was part of his reasoning of why he didn’t want to commit to me). He always wanted to split the bill on dates. I wasn’t FDS enlightened so even though my instinct was to be upset about that, 50/50 is the norm in my social sphere. I let this BS situationship go on for 6 months.

Normally I would never be interested in such an old fart but he is extremely good looking. A little less so now but still looks like a model/actor. Every women who has seen a pic of him agrees. And he’s very successful in my field so that was very attractive to me as well. I’m a fan of his work and we could talk nonstop forever about our shared interests. The main thing is we had the best physical chemistry and he was a great lover. I’ve never enjoyed kissing so much and that’s what I miss the most. I was actually hesitant about him at first due to his age and self-absorption but as soon as we kissed I got that swooning/swept off my feet feeling which I’ve never gotten before with a guy. It was just so connected/intimate/perfect/sexy. And I always felt that extreme high when we kissed.

I’ve dated men since him (this was like a year ago) but it’s all been duds that didn’t go anywhere. I still think of him every day and feel so much love for him despite the horrible things he’s said to me. It’s like the rational part of me knows I deserve better and he’s a loser but my feelings/emotions can’t catch up. I don’t know how to let go of the romantic fantasy. I feel like I’ve tried everything to let him go but I can’t. Help!!!!!
