Hello ladies,

I have read the handbook and looked at the finances section, which mentions job hopping to improve your career and pay. I will admit I have not done this as I am struggling to know what I would like to do for a career.

I considered counselling and have invested in some training for counselling skills, and in the UK there is no legislation around counselling and psychotherapy - however paying jobs seem to want membership either the BACP or UKCP and their ethical guidelines state to put the client first.

Reading here all your experiences and how abusers never change, I am wondering how I can enforce a boundary of refusing to work with manipulative clients or clients who reveal themselves to be abusers if I am supposed to put them first. I wanted to do relationship therapy, but the provider for this states I would have to do couples counselling, which we all are aware doesn't help and so is something I refuse to do.

I am wanting to level up and set boundaries in my life, yet I am getting the sense if I continue down this route I might be expected to not have them either because of where I work or because I am self-employed and need the money (the BACP states over 50% of its members are self-employed and make less than £10,000 a year). What are your thoughts on this?
