I love, love, love Tom Hanks. But if you choose to forever-girlfriend struggle -love build him up "make it work" it's NEVER going to end well for you. I'm talking about YOUR happiness in a relationship... And the RELATIONSHIPS POTENTIAL FOR LONGEVITY. I can't stand for any Tom Hanks bashing-that is NOT what this post is about. He is a high high value man- he has been married 33 years, treats his wife and family well and cared for her during her struggle with illness. Paid for his ex wife's cancer treatment while already divorced.

However, ANYONE can find themselves in a bad position where they are getting dumped by their husband because he married you thinking it was the right thing to do, not out of burning passion. he's going to meet the love of his life one day and he's going to have to break up with you in order to marry her just like we see in this example. that's great for those people, I'm really happy for them that they have true love in their lives. But it's a fact that it hurts a lot less to dump a guy if he has not proposed in 3 years than it does to be dumped by him when you already have a whole family and marriage. the premise of this principle is the premise of the rules books if you want to learn more(Ellen Fein and Sherry Schneider- ALL THE RULES & NOT YOUR MOTHER'S RULES)

NO DISRESPECT to these people- I just think it's really important to realize it's not just Low Value Men (jerks) who will break your heart. It's a lot worse if it's a great guy because then it REALLY hurts. That's what the premise of "he's just not that into you" and "the rules" is about- unless he's CRAZY ABOUT YOU, it's not going to work very well or last forever. And a guy who is crazy about you will KNOW. Just like Tom hanks KNEW the second he met his wife Rita. This doesn't make Tom a bad guy. He had his first child at 21 and married his first wife at 23. He was probably just doing the best he could and he cared deeply about his first wife. ...... But that's the thing. The guy doesn't have to be some evil plotting sh*tbag to break your heart. He could be a really great guy, he's just not YOUR guy (if he's not that into you)

But you can protect yourself from the total devastation that is being broken up with by the love of your life.

Being hard on guys by not allowing them to forever girlfriend you is necessary for your heart. Guys KNOW RIGHT AWAY. Tom and Rita have been married 33 years.

If he isn't crazy about you from day one, proposes within 3 years, he's just not that into you! Apparently he was high school sweet hearts with the ex.

I feel bad even making this post but it's important to know that even the most high value man on Earth (WE LOVE YOU TOM) can break your heart if you aren't careful. Only date men who are nuts about you, and don't date a guy for years and years and years while he's building himself or young or both. Chances are he will find the one he's crazy about when he's stabilized and you'll be left in the dust

He wasn’t ready. He had two fucking kids with her but he wasn’t ready. He was ready to have an affair and leave his wife for his mistress, though. You know what they say about that, Rita: the man who marries his mistress leaves a vacancy in the position.

Meh. In certain parts of the country it’s much more common for people to marry earlier in life. It really all depends on the person’s values and belief in marriage.

I don’t like arbitrary age cutoffs.
