I read an article about love bombing that was really enlightening. It was saying that narcissists do feel “love” in that moment so when they are doing all these outrageous things they truly believe you are the one in their eyes. Once the veil they’ve created lifts they start to resent you because they realize you aren’t the idealized version of the person they thought you were. Obviously you’re human so you can’t be perfect. That’s why they start pulling away and acting distant. They keep you on the back burner until they find their next victim and this cycle repeats over and over again. Narcissists truly live in hell and they want others to too.

I think it can also be performative effort. “I came all this way...” and we all know what they expect in return. Eye roll.

I constantly tell men I’m not easily impressed. They think I should be impressed that they drove 2 hours to see me? Lol. It happens all the time, why would that impress me.

Sexual assault trigger warning:

In my early 20s, an online predator lovebombed me and traveled 12 hours to visit me. He bought the bus tickets without consulting me. Being the pick-me that I was, I told myself that this was such a gentlemanly thing to do and the least I could do was set aside a guest bed for him at my house while he was visiting.

I kept insisting on sleeping in my own bed, but he told me that I owed it to him to stay in his bed and talk to him for a while after all of the traveling he had just done for me. He kept trying to kiss me and I kept pulling away.

Well long story short, I accidentally fell asleep next to him because it was like 3 am at that point and he raped me repeatedly while I was sleeping. I froze and dissociated and blocked the whole thing out. I went into a prolonged dissociative episode for months after that and didn't even realize what really happened until a year later.

So yeah. Don't ever trust a man who singles you out online. He is a predator.

So true! I’ve had men fly and drive hundreds of miles to meet me. At first I was flattered and believed it to be due to some special connection or interest/intentions for me...but I’ve come to believe they probably exhausted their closer options lol

I had an ex regularly drive 7+ hours to come see me, even if it was only to be with me for a few hours. He was cheating on me the whole time we dated and was manipulative and emotionally abusive so driving all the way to come see me meant absolutely nothing.
