Corporate workplaces often have "affinity" groups to supposedly support women, POC, LGBTQ employees. Sometimes they're pretty generic keynote-for-hire kind of things and sometimes they're more grassroots, organized by passionate people to address hyper relevant issues.

I think pickme behavior bleeds into women's professional lives. I suspect Pickmes at work are less likely to advocate for equality let alone advancement for themselves, peers, and subordinates. One day they'll champion the rejection of shadow work (unpaid admin bullshit women usually do because men don't volunteer) and the next they'll be in some parenting Slack channel complaining about the division of labour in their household. I'm struggling to not regress to victim blaming, because the odds are stacked against all women, but I've become more leery of "support" from women colleagues who are obviously Pickmes. Why would I accept help from someone who can't help themselves?

I guess since "groups for professional women" are common these days, I'm looking for "groups for professional women that will actually do something."

Or are corporate overlords the equivalent of LVM and I shouldn't even try to engage?
