The overwhelming majority of men are disappointing.

Women literally die trying to "be in control" and improve men. It may seem fatalistic to you to give up on savages and live a meaningful life instead of one based around a pipe dream about men, but your perspective is literally fatal for too many women who embrace it.

Lol, your youthful tenacity and unyielding optimism is admirable, but fuck all that! If I had the kind of energy required to do what you've set out to do, I'd pour it into myself and solve world hunger with what remains, if you catch my drift, lol.
It's my belief that any man who wants to be made will make himself. You may be able to bend a weak man into pretending to be a diamond ring, but all he'll ever be is a small creature wrapped around your finger, depreciating in value until he inevitably becomes a liability.
I also believe that women can grow, change, and adapt more easily than men, and that our punishments for failing to do so are far steeper.
I really do admire your spirit, and I hope that you don't piss it away trying to fix men. Too many women have taken our natural vigor and spent it all on LVM that they thought wanted to improve themselves; few have been rewarded, and the world is still crawling with LVM.

Men already have parents and actual teachers. If they didn't learn when they were young you think you're going to teach a grown man to brush his teeth? Eat a variety of food not just tendies every day? Look after finances? You think you can teach a man to respect your boundaries during sex when he is stronger than you and pretends not to understand the word no?
Men aren't stupid. They just pretend to be ignorant so they can gave a excuse not to be a caring human being. Men can look after themselves and be nice. They just choose not to. The key word there is choose.

I try to tell myself this after I googled him and he went to a good school and accomplished a lot and found out we have a lot in common (I got ghosted) 🙃

Accomplishments and things in common with you doesn't mean someone is a good person
[–]MaisiebrFDS Newbie9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I found a lot of times you can find things in common with most people you are drawn to. A lot of things. The people I've found common ground with still weren't for me. After I moved on from my crush, my first boyfriend, a lot of suitors, my next boyfriend (and even the man I'm seeing now, I love him, but the things we have in common might be other kind of things with others)... Whoa, I feel the current connection, but if I think about it, the men were all the same in terms of having some similar life experiences/views/taste.

Social media makes it SO HARD to not stalk someone and become super infatuated.
I’ve made it a new goal to NEVER google a guy before we go on the first date (or even during the entire beginning of the relationship for that matter).

The other thing - stop basing your self worth on the opinions of people who you don't want to be more like. If someone doesn't approve of you, but you don't admire them and want to be more like them, then who the fuck cares. If the people who inspire you - whether that is an amazing mentor or a friend who is super kind or what have you - if those people like you, you're good to go. Don't worry about the opinions of people you don't respect and don't want to emulate.

[–]HoneyNJ2000FDS Apprentice-4 points-3 points-2 points 6 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link
It's really hard to take anyone seriously when every other word is "u" or "ur" as it's written in the initial post. I feel like I'm dealing with a teenager. Comically enough, she spelled out the word "idealized" but couldn't type the word "you" or "your."
Anyway, the message is a bit contrived but I get what she's trying to say.
[–]MaisiebrFDS Newbie11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I found this kind of speech with the typed out smiley faces instead of emojis, the weird abbreviations like ppl, no capital letters, u and ur, etc. is used when people try to convey being supportive/friendly and most importantly non-threatening (I don't see why, but the common ground seems to be this). It's incredibly weird and I don't see why anyone needs to use it, when it's otherwise a mature message.
[–]thiswomanthatiknowFDS Newbie3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good point! It's probably the same social mechanism that causes us to laugh when uncomfortable.
I don't write like a child just to seem more inviting, but I sure do get a stupid, goofy grin when I'm nervous. I sure do wish the latter were as easy to control as the former.

Who cares? Why is perfect grammar such a big deal for people? Good grief.
[–]thiswomanthatiknowFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
There's a difference between "perfect grammar" and presenting oneself as a mature adult.
Also, what's the big deal with saying people are making a big deal about something that they are calmly and rationally commenting on? The person you're making a big deal about didn't even discard the message, just remarked on the sloppy packaging. Why make such a big deal over it? Who cares? 🤔
[–]RadicalCardiganCorgiFDS Newbie-1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
"Presenting oneself as a mature adult" this isn't a job interview sis. I'm just telling you its annoying when people feel the need to play grammar nazi every damn time whenever someone dares to not be completely grammatically correct. Also its just internet slang tbh most millenials/zoomers use. Might be that its just not what you're used to speech wise.
[–]thiswomanthatiknowFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Lol I'm a millenial, I've been around poorly literate people my whole life, I used to be a high school teacher and am partnered with someone who still is, and I happen to know the value to oneself and the rest of society when we all practice and demonstrate proper literacy. Am also not a "grammar nazi," I just find it annoying when insecure people make wild exaggerations about others for the purpose of encouraging a lazier, less effective society. And I, like the woman you attacked for her comment, happen to care. We care, and millions of other educated people care, that's who cares.
The initial post wasn't "not completely grammatically correct," it nearly completely lacked grammatical correctness. I knew and used better grammar when I was seven, and I grew up a poor kid from a tiny blip of a town not far from Hickville. And as an adult, I've worked with a lot of disadvantaged ESL/ELL students who were not of unique intelligence who demonstrated better English literacy than this.
This is a less effective writing style because it appears to have been written by a child or an adult lacking so much as a primary (elementary) education. Adults should not take life advice from children or from adults who communicate like children because they have demonstrated intellectual and/or emotional laziness, and the world is full of mature, educated people who are not lazy and who have much better advice to dispense. There's no good reason for an adult in 2020 to communicate like a tween and be regarded like a sage.
Also, kids have been writing like that long, long before the internet was invented, lol. In fact, writing like that started with adults who, many decades ago, could learn the alphabet much more easily than they could learn to spell, and they literally did not know how to spell the word "you." Nowadays, kids do it because they're dumb and think they're being subversive. Adults do it because they didn't take their education seriously, and, therefore, those of us who did struggle to take them seriously.

You need reading comprehension and a dictionary.
You're a fool, and I'm not your sis. My sisters have more character than to say that I "have issues" and to call my calm, reasoned response a tantrum just because they were wrong and couldn't possibly imagine articulating a thought longer than one simple sentence.
You like the tweet because you're immature like the person who wrote it.
And you insult like an unclever misogynist.
[–]RadicalCardiganCorgiFDS Newbie-2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Wow really? Whatever makes you sleep at night. I'm not saying I disagree or agree with poster. I'm litteraly just saying its stupid to get all over someones fucking grammar. Good lord. I like how you try to act like others are "your sisters" are not mine. Love how this shit reaches even radfem spaces. This is just a way of friendly and comfterably talking. Litteraly stfu. I'm just telling you its stupid to get onto someone purely for grammar and ways of speaking. Thats all. Trying to use speech to exlude me doesn't change the fact you're getting all toxic over me just pointing out your complaints are childish. I like how your "sisters" downvote you because you are being rude for no reason. Calling everyone immature and a child while speaking all formal doesn't change the fact you're toxic.
[–]thiswomanthatiknowFDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Look in a mirror while writing most of that? You continuously lie about what other people are saying and how they're acting, and you deliberately insulted me and the woman you originally replied to, but you wanna act like that's "friendly" and that others are toxic? You're so full of shit that you're a whole toxic waste dump, and I ain't sisters with nasty hypocrites like you who sling shit and then wonder why people are calling you out. That's why I don't want you calling me your sister.
And I'm not speaking "formally," or, to cite your prior asinine example, like I'm on a job interview. I'm speaking like an adult who has cracked a few books and didn't sleep through middle school before dropping out of high school. I'm speaking the way I do all the time, whether I'm at work, interviewing for a new job, on Reddit, hanging with my friends, saying hi to acquaintances in the grocery store, interacting with students, placing an order at Taco Bell, or camping in the fucking woods.
Why don't you take your own advice from the literal tantrum you just had and "litteraly [sic] stfu," since you have nothing intelligent or useful to add to any conversation happening here? You are a hypocrite, a fool, and a liar, and that has now been demonstrated enough for me to know that nothing you have to say has merit.
[–]RadicalCardiganCorgiFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Good lord you're so fucking mad bc I called u out for acting like a grammar nazi, lmfao. You are being downvoted by others aswell for a reason. Not me. Seems like "your sisters" think the same as me. You sound very immature despite the big paragraphs you try to write to justify your annoying immature behaviour. Calling other women out isn't toxic. Sisterhood and feminism doesnt mean suck up to other womens asses. You acting like this is stupid. You calling OP immature and a child for her slang is on you sis. Not me. Call me nasty all you want. Not sure how I'm a hypocrite or nasty for telling you its fucking stupid and dramatic to get worked up over someone using ur instead of your.
Because at the end of the day you're writing long ass paragraphs just because someone on the internet DARED to use ur instead of your. Ur wild sis 😂

I agree, and would even argue that the advice is a bit childish. What kind of mature, confident woman develops "crushes" on men she knows so little about as to be able to dream up imaginary traits about something as basic as his character? If you don't know him and yet you're "crushing," you are most likely lacking either maturity and/or self-esteem.
