Add Outlander to the list - lots of attempted rape and actual rape… and romanticizing men saving women from whatever violent situation or getting revenge on their behalf. Then there’s the scene where Jamie has to spank Claire for misbehaving… so much cringe.

Yes I think they are. Like you said, the framing focus lighting music everything. They can tell the story of brutal events without zooming in and lingering on women's pained faces with beautiful music in the background every other episode!

I actually think these dramas show how life was -- people were brutal, life was hard. Poldark is a horrible man to women and most powerful men in Cornwall back then probably were horrible to women.

If audiences romanticize this, that is part of a much deeper problem imo. It's like when women romanticized that movie about Ted Bundy with Zac Efron. Why on earth would you romanticize Ted Bundy, even in a movie? It speaks to something deeper in western culture, women not knowing who to look up to almost.
