I've (23F) been dating my boyfriend (27M) for 8 months. I've met his family and I've spoken to mine about him (not introduced him yet). In the beginning, he went above and beyond for me.. took me on elaborate dates, showered me with attention, didn't cancel dates. Now I feel like he takes me for granted as he's too comfortable? He contacts me daily, and initiates dates but he doesn't put as much effort in anymore. Today we had a date planned, he cancelled on me after I got ready, saying 'lets give it a miss hun, I want to spend time with family.. how about next week?' - we haven't seen each other in 3 weeks and he sees his family everyday. I had his birthday presents to give (was his birthday a couple of days ago), so was excited and ready to see him in a couple of hours :/ I was distraught, he didn't even apologise.

He cancelled during the phone call, he could tell I was upset yet didn't even backtrack and go on the date HE initiated. I think it's my fault, as I never speak up when I'm upset and always pretend I'm okay. In the past, I've been taken advantage of and treated like a doormat. How do I respond in a high value way? Right now I need space, I don't want to speak to him for a couple days or see him next week either as I'm too annoyed. How do I 'pull back? How do I get him to respect me more, and stop taking me for granted?

EDIT: I forgot to mention he did try to reschedule.. he offered to pick me up and take me out after work on Friday, and suggested Saturday as well, if that makes a difference? AND he rescheduled as his sister just got back from boarding school so he wanted to take her out for the day.
