I’m trying to not be a “forever girlfriend”. Here are some ideas that I have created. Feel free to add in more ideas and critique my thoughts and ideas on this. Here’s my list:

— One must not date the guy for more than a certain number of years. In my opinion, if he hasn’t proposed in two years and you have brought it up, leave. Projection and promises don’t count. He has to have a ring.

— Don’t move in to his place or have him move into your place. It leaves room for you to become his live-in bangmaid which also widens the opportunity for you to get pregnant which will tie you to him forever because you have kids together.

— Don’t stay over at his place regularly. Absolutely, no regular sleepovers. Especially if he lives with his parents. Obviously don’t let him stay over your place either. It creates easy access to you.

— Vet him. The moment he disrespects you in anyway, makes you feel uncomfortable, or says something that turns you off. He is no longer husband material. At this point you need to find a good time to cut him loose. Be sure to do it in a way that is safe for you.

— Never have sex early into the relationship. Most guys know about the 3-4 month rule. Have sex with him when you are ready to be sexually intimate with him. Personally, it takes longer for me. There’s no set time reference, but for sure it’s longer than 4 months. Also, don’t have sex with him out of obligation or routine, because you do not owe him this. It creates a pattern that he expects.

— Most importantly if he could have, he would have. Guys will bend over backwards, and do have the ability to go out of their way to do things. Leave when he stops putting in effort.
