Unless you need this information for legal reasons, if a man is making you second-guess this kind of thing... just leave/let it go. Knowing if he lied to you about the status of his past (or current) marriage really isn't going to make you feel any better unless you need to nail him for something financially.

You would have to search on a county basis. Not every county makes this information publicly available.

I just searched "divorce court case information" with the name of my state on a search engine, clicked a website that looked familiar/legit with .gov at the end and they had a way to search state divorce records by last name

States choose what is legal- for example, I think NY keeps them all private, but most states allow the general public to see. Then, counties choose how they can be accessed- via websites or via in person requests, etc. Most states are free and most counties have searchable online records.

State law will determine what's available, as others have said.

From there, you'll want to know what county he married in (or check all possibilities). Go to the county court - civil records. You can usually google "[county] docket civil marriage"... and pull any licenses.

Divorces are cases, so you again go the county where divorce was filed, look for the "civil court docket" or "civil cases" - search by name. And it should pull up.
