It's not extreme. She just committed to the normal thing women do avoid getting raped/kidnapped/murdered; being on calls and sharing tracking link during cab rides, calling a friend or asking a friend to join them if they're expecting a maintenance guy, lying about having a boyfriend in bars and clubs, pretending you're waiting for someone/are with someone in a shady area, video calling friends when you're around someone suspicious, putting dirty men's shoes outside to make it look like a guy lives there and keeping pepper sprays/knives on you at all times.

These are things every self aware woman does in order to make herself feel safer. The fact that Jack feels it's extreme just shows how out of touch he is with reality.

I also find it mildly hilarious that “woman” is hyperlinked. Like I get that the hyperlink probably just leads to more information on this particular case, but since most hyperlinked words in articles provide background knowledge for people unfamiliar with that thing, I am half expecting that link to take us to the dictionary definition of woman. That would be in line with the knowledge of our lives shown by Jack’s surprise.
