Hey ladies, long time lurker, first time poster here. Essentially, here's the deal: I moved to a new city (I won't say the specific city, but it's one of the largest in the U.S.) to date my significant other. We had been together for six months and dating long-distance. Before I moved here, I was under the impression that after a few months, we would be moving in together.
We're both in our very late twenties/early thirties. He has been here for almost five years and very well established with a social circle, career, and apartment. He's even lived with the same roommate for the entire time. There was a chance that she was moving out, so he invited me to live with him and said that even if she did not move out, we would get our own place and he would break his lease. It's important to note that 1) he has never lived with a GF before and 2) He and his ex broke up because she wanted to move in with him and he would not do it.
Now that I'm living here and in a sublet, he's singing a different tune about the living situation and I am extremely frustrated. Now, he's saying that he does not want to break his lease and has decided to extend a work trip (it's for research and they are month-long commitments) from the entire month of May to the entire month of May and June. He talked to me about wanting to do this and I told him he should (it's good for his career), but that I wanted more set in stone about us moving in together. My sublet ends a month before he leaves, and I've told him that I do not want to move somewhere, then have to move somewhere else again only a few months later. I even cried. I'm tired of moving and have literally started a new job, left behind my friends, and even have my dog living at my parents until I can secure a full-time place. I told him I felt that I had given up a lot, and he says he has done a lot for the relationship as well, but.... I really do not feel that he has.
We got into a big emotional thing about it, and I left the conversation feeling really stupid and unsettled. I told him I feel uneasy about continuing to date and him leaving for essentially, 2-3 months before we can live together. I told him that I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders and I can't continue to feel that way. I just feel like he's being stubborn because he doesn't want to be inconvenienced with the details of finding a new apartment and moving somewhere new before his trip.
That's fair, but in the meantime, I'm picking up all of the financial slack. He gets to be comfortable and I have to be uncomfortable. I told him it wasn't fair and by the end of the conversation, it was clear that he wasn't budging. I'm SO frustrated and feel like I've been swindled into dating a LVM who isn't willing to put me first.
I'm feeling desperate and very disappointed and really need advice and tips from women with a clearer perspective. He promises that we'll move in together after his lease ends (6+ months from now), but I don't want to wait and feel like I shouldn't believe him again. I feel like if there's no resolution, we're going to continue to fight and will probably break up.
