Wow. This just made something click that I’ve been wondering about for a long time. I used to know this annoying asshole who always claimed that every girl who ever broke up with him “never really loved him” and I was always just sitting there thinking like “Sure dude, women love wasting their own time pretending to love you just so they can hurt you later. We totally get free cookies every time we hurt a man!” 🙄

Now I see, his ego was just so pathetic he couldn’t handle the idea of someone simply falling out of love with him.

(I already identified him as a narcissist for tons of other reasons long ago, but this specific behavior just got cleared up big time.)

My ex called me emotionally abusive and "cold" when I said we should break up after he complained about how being in a relationship makes him sad because he can't sleep around. He literally said "I don't think I like dating, I feel like I made a mistake" and 180'd to "why are you leaving meeeee" two minutes later. Ashamed to say I fell for it the first time, but not the second.
