I don’t date much looking to be in a relationship anymore. I just let life happen and vet judging people’s actions.

I’ve been seeing this one guy whom... I just cared for. I felt very connected to him the minute I saw him. I let myself feel and enjoy his company.

But, twist: it never meant anything more.

It was so freeing to just feel? Not to escalate, not to think, not to act.. just to lean back and watch it unfold.

He had high intelligence and good character, we laughed and had a very good time.

Towards the end I could feel him growing very distant and anxious. I didn’t acknowledge it.

I just felt. I let it sit and marinate. And I knew.

He reached out to “let me know” he was not looking for a relationship. I said I wasn’t either. Because I am not.

I sat back and watched. And I knew.

His time and effort decreased and he’d message me things that didn’t fit my assessment of him.

But I didn’t let him know. I just stopped communicating. We didn’t have sex. Lived on. And continued to just feel. And not think.

I could feel he was struggling with something.

I think sometimes you just meet people on your wave length. Sometimes you just meet someone whos right on your strip of colour. Maybe similar life experiences. Maybe similiar intelligence.

But it’s not something to long for like its portrayed in our culture.

After some things that just didn’t sit well with me I wrote out my feelings for myself on a piece of paper. I wrote and wrote and wrote and laughed and cried for myself.

We had planned to meet again but I could see from reading what I had written.. I already knew: he is not for me, I am not for him. If I sleep with him, he’s going to discard me. They think in such a dichotomy. It can never be about just an experience for them. About human connection. It always has to be about “women you marry, women you fuck”. Even if he is “different”.

And that is the truth.

I thought to myself, why not just send him this? He is struggling with something, I have no romantic feelings, this is not corny, just my piece of truth to someone I know is in despair. So I added I was backing out and that he is welcome to stay an acquaintance.

And I sent it to him.

He replied with a paragraph.. he’s been carrying something very heavy for a while now. That he can’t and doesn’t want to look it in the eye. That’s why he’d been distant. He knows he can’t give me what I want. But he knows he could have at another point in time. You really are very desirable, insert name. He regrets my “decision”.

I said, “I see. I wish you well.”

He replied, “I wish you well. Sometimes it really is just the wrong time.”

We all know had I not made that decision for me I would have given him the power to unleash his chaos onto me!

He was in conflict with himself and for some reason he did not want to bring chaos into my life...... but to another!!

That is how men think: women I can treat like crap because I have found something about her I despise and women whom I just can’t do this to. THEY KNOW.

Alas, to me it was refreshing to be vulnerable just for myself. No expectations. I think it inspires people to face their own demons. But never EVER would I choose to put myself into his world. What a mess and disrespect he would have thrown into my face!

I just knew.
