FDS is het-centric because it grapples a lot with how patriarchy influences male/female relationships, especially in romantic and sexual contexts. A lot of the strategies here take those influences into consideration. So a lot of it, naturally, won't apply to female/female relationships.

Hello! I’m a lesbian who just discovered this subreddit today. I have to say, the women here are smart in their dealings with men. I’ve been enjoying reading the posts. Lots of empowered women here (real empowerment, not performative).

To answer your question about whether lesbians have anything to gain from the FDS mentality, I would say it’s a good approach for anyone who wants a serious relationship and for anyone who wants to draw healthy boundaries.

But I think one thing is different for lesbians - straight women don’t have much to gain in having causal sex and being in vaguely-commited relationships with men. But lesbians can enjoy sex and short relationships “for what they are” (if they chose). 2 women don’t risk pregnancy, and have a much lower STD risk. They are probably closer in size (less threat of violence). The concept of being a ‘slut’ or ‘used up’ doesn’t really exist for lesbians (less social consequences of sleeping around). We aren’t dealing with reproductive constraints that affect our timeline for relationships, etc...

What I’m saying is that lesbians don’t need to employ as stringent of a set of boundaries and expectations in dating as straight women do, because women are generally better behaved to start with and you have less to lose if it goes wrong. Exceptions exist, of course.

I think if you're a lesbian the majority of advice here won't really be for you then.

Especially since men and women are socialized differently and bond differently.

I'd say there is a point to being here. Lesbian relationships can be terrible or even abusive as well in their own ways, while having their own red flags. So you need to set your own standards for dating other women as well imo. Being here reminds me to take no shit from anyone.

Yeah this sub is about not putting up with male bullshit so it is specific to hetero dating.
