Hi. I’m a recovering PickMe and I just want to thank you ladies for helping me realize my value as a person. I feel pretty emotional about all this, but I was with someone for almost five years who, looking back, put in the minimal amount of effort to keep me around. I loved him so much and I would take any attention as proof of how much he loved me. We were both broke grad students, but he bought me flowers once. We never celebrated Valentine’s Day. We didn’t have an anniversary. He was physically present when my mother died to hold my hand, and then went on a boat with his friends the next day while I cried with my closest girl friends at home.

Shocker, when we were apart for a year he left me for a girl who he worked with.

I’m sure you guys get it, but I was beyond devastated losing him. I had tied pretty much all my value as a person to earning his love. Being worthy of his love. I had no confidence and was so low looking back I’m so glad I got help. I went into therapy, got started on medication, and started reading things about how I let myself become so emotionally damaged. That’s how I found you guys.

Anyway, a guy who was cute and successful asked me on a date, but then qualified it with “but I’m not looking for anything serious”. The old me would’ve gone and secretly thought he’ll change his mind and see how wonderful I am OR convince myself I’m cool and don’t want anything serious either.

I deserve love and I’m holding out for someone who wants to send me flowers and can’t wait for a night out for our anniversary and is consistently so happy to be with me.

So, thank you ladies. You guys are really doing amazing things for lost women out there like me.
